Compact and Versatile Thermal Constants Analyser

The Hot Disk TPS 500 S Thermal Constants Analyser combines the flexibility of the powerful TPS 2500 S with the slim design and ease of use characterizing the basic TPS 500. It quickly and accurately measures thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat capacity of an extended range of materials. This versatile, yet modestly priced, instrument along with the elegant Hot Disk Thermal Analysis software is the ideal measurement apparatus for the small-scale laboratory or a compact and efficient QC testing system.

The TPS 500 S measures the thermal transport properties of solids, pastes, gels and powders and encompasses similar accuracy and sample size flexibility as the instruments designed according to ISO 22007-2. The operative simplicity of the TPS 500 S with its extended testing capabilities constitutes the smartest and most cost-effective thermal transport properties measurement device on the market.

The test & analysis software for the TPS 500 S system incorporates tools for automated measurements as well as automatic temperature control of external devices. The software also includes tools for exporting results to third-party software (MS Excel), for additional processing or statistical analysis.

Sensors: The TPS 1500 operates a selection of Hot Disk sensors suitable for different materials and applications.

Temperature Control: Automatic Temperature series measurements (Isothermal Steps) are easy to perform using either an optional external Furnace or a temperature-controlled Circulating Bath. The Hot Disk Analysis software and TPS 1500 instrument controls the external device using RS-232 protocol.

Everything to get you started: The basic TPS 1500 system includes everything necessary to begin making measurements, including installation and on-site training. The instrumentation includes: Software with standard isotropic module, one Sensor, Stainless Steel verification samples and a Room-Temperature Sample Holder.

Optional Software Modules: In addition to the standard ISOTROPIC and ONE-DIMENSIONAL modules, optional ones for ANISOTROPIC, SPECIFIC HEAT CAPACITY, and LOW-DENSITY, HIGHLY-INSULATING SAMPLES are available.

The advantages of using a TPS instruments involve the following:

The method is non-destructive.

Contact resistance between sensor and sample does not influence measurement results.

Porous and transparent samples are easy to test, without modification.

Surface roughness or surface color does not influence measurement results.

Minimum- or no sample preparation.

Double-sided testing for maximum accuracy.

Optional single-sided QC-testing for maximum ease.

Instant and fully consistent thermal conductivity results.

Three thermal transport properties measured in a single transient.

No calibration or reference sample verification required. (The TPS technique is an absolute technique.)

Thermal Testing Laboratories: The Transient Plane Source (TPS) series of thermal conductivity systems are well suited for thermal testing laboratories due to their superior material type, sample size and temperature flexibility.

Nanotechnology: Nano-Research is the creation of high performance functional materials, devices and systems through control of matter on the nanometer length scale. The TPS series of thermal conductivity systems are particularly well suited for the testing of nano-engineered materials, whether your interests are in solids or liquids. One highlight is the electrically insulated TPS sensors, which are key to accurately measuring the thermal conductivity of liquids, without the negative influence of nano-particle + non-insulated metal sensor the more traditional methods suffer from.

Building Materials: With the ability to measure homogenious and non-homogenious materials, the TPS thermal conductivity systems can be used to test all building materials from insulation to concrete and everything in between.

Heat Transfer Materials: Uniquely designed to test heat transfer materials of all types, including solids, liquids and pastes. The TPS Thermal Conductivity Systems are also able to test complex heat transfer samples such as thin films and higly conductive sheets. For anisotropic samples, the TPS can measure directional thermal conductivity through the thickness and in the plane.

Geothermal: Thermal Conductivity is an ever increasing property to understanding the geothermal industry. Widely used for its ability to test samples like soil and rock with temperature, the TPS thermal conductivity instrument continues to play an important part in this growing industry.

Solids: Offering the best combination of accuracy and testing flexibility, the TPS thermal conductivity systems cover a wide range of thermal conductivity (0.001 to 500 W/mK). Added to this flexibility is the ability to test composites, thin films and anisotropic solids.

Liquids: The TPS thermal conductivity systems can be used to test liquids under conditions of minimised volume, temperature and pressure. The electrically insulated TPS sensor offers several advancements over the typical bare metal sensors, such as protection from particle interference and convection effects.

Powders: Whether your particles are small or large in size, the TPS thermal conductivity system offers several sensor sizes to accomadate the individual particle or bulk sample.

Pastes: Combining the ability to measure semi-solids and high thermal conductivity, make the TPS thermal conductivity system a perfect tool for measuring pastes.
